More than 300 construction and maritime industry professionals came together last week to celebrate the grand opening of Liebherr’s new $20 million sales and service center in Miami, Fla. Designed to serve as a major hub for Liehberr’s maritime cranes division, the state-of-the-art facility located near the Port of Miami and Miami International Airport will strengthen business relations to Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean.

New higher capacity Roto-Mate Jib Crane Motorization Kits have been announced by The David Round Company. The kits are employed to provide powered rotation to either existing or new wall-mounted or freestanding jib cranes with up to 10 ton loads. By providing motorized rotation, the Roto-Mate kit can reduce or eliminate injuries resulting from workers trying to either start or stop the motion of a swinging crane, a significant source of strains and back injuries.

Scheduled to take place alongside the Scaffold & Access Industry Association's Annual Convention on July 24 in Nashville, Tenn., the Safe Access & Fall Protection (SAF-T) Conference will feature some of the top industry experts on access platforms. Brad Boehler, president of Skyjack and chair of the ANSI A92.6 subcommittee, will present "Safe Movement of Equipment on Jobsites," during the one-day powered access-focused SAF-T Conference.

Injuries within workplace environments can occur when personnel are lifting or moving inappropriately heavy loads. The use of mechanical lifting equipment helps, but can also be time consuming, particularly where rope or chain wheel manual operations are associated with raising loads to above head height. Air powered lifting has been proved to be safe, effective, economical and time saving, particularly where there is an existing compressed-air power source available.

As with all theater performances, the illusion of a reality on an opera stage must be preserved seamlessly and without visual distraction. Safety for the performers, of course, is never an illusion, and one opera house in Genoa, Italy, has taken positive steps to ensure that all performers are safe on any stage production.

When Joel Back, production manager for Gold Metal Recyclers, describes his company’s Dallas processing yard, he challenges anyone to “think of the harshest environment possible for a forklift, such as a construction site…and then multiply it by a factor of 10.” As if this statement was not enough by itself, he is compelled to offer some justification for the claim.  

The Lift-A-Loft TMX series truck-mounted maintenance lift is now available with an option for a telescopic overhead lanyard system. The overhead lanyard system was designed to provide workers fall arrest protection while performing crown maintenance on aircraft.  The fall arrest system can safely allow three workers to be attached while centered over the fuselage of an aircraft.
