ATI Designs Omni-Directional Jib Crane for Aircraft Manufacturing

ATI's omni-directional jib crane
April 7, 2010 — Air Technical Industries (ATI), Mentor, Ohio, has developed and manufactured a unique and versatile mobile telescopic-mast jib crane with omni-directional mobility for handling various components during the aircraft manufacturing process. ATI’s stationary telescopic-mast jib cranes have been used in similar operations; the concept of modular design in aircraft manufacturing requires much more flexibility and omni-directional mobility. The large prefabricated aircraft components, weighing up to 3,500 pounds, must be lifted up to 36 feet high, transported into position, and articulated into the precise orientation for assembly. ATI developed the new jib crane to enable the production crew to reach over, under, and if necessary into, the airplane to position components during the assembly process.

AirOlift Prevents Back Injuries in Manufacturing Industries

AirOlift tailored a lift with an attachment for gently handling rolls in a variety of sizes.
February 2, 2010
– According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 1 million workers suffer back injuries each year, which account for one in five workplace injuries or illnesses. Though lifting, placing, carrying, holding and lowering are involved in manual materials handling (the principal cause of compensable work injuries), the BLS survey shows that four out of five of these injuries were to the lower back and that three out of four occurred while the employee was lifting. According to the 2008 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index, injuries related to lifting, pushing, pulling, holding, carrying, or throwing cost businesses $12.4 billion in direct costs in 2006. In fact, it can cost an individual employer up to $65,000 for a single back injury.
